Splash Awards 2009

Organized by the Student Chapter and the IDM Chapter of the Singapore Computer Society (SCS), Splash Awards 2009 is an annual national design competition. First held in 2004, the Splash Awards has evoked great interests and excitement amongst schools from across the island. Open to all students ranging from secondary to tertiary institutions as well as ITEs and private design schools, this national IT event has provided a platform to engage students in various aspects of infocomm technology in a fun and creative way!

This year's theme is [Capitalizing on IT to Thrive in the Current Economy]. Participating teams will have to convey creative expressions centred on this theme through poster or interactive media.

 Cyber Gaming Festival 2009

This coming June, the NUS School of Computing Students' Computing Club will be hosting the annual Cyber Gaming Festival '09. It is a gaming competition aimed at secondary to tertiary level students as well as the public. The 4 games consists of "Defense of the Ancients (DotA)", "Left 4 Dead", "Blackshot" (tertiary students only) and "Guitar Hero World Tour". All participants get a FREE goodie bag worth more than $60 including CGF '09 T-shirt, and top winners of each game stand to win cash and prizes up to $3500.

Details of the competition are as follows:

Date: 27th – 28th June 2009

Venue: Game Haven @ SAFRA (beside Clarke Quay MRT)

Time: 10 am - 8 pm

Registration fee:

DotA - $50 per team, 5 vs. 5 (Open category)

Left 4 Dead - $40 per team, 4 vs. 4 (Open category) - players under 16 requires parental consent. (Will be given a copy of consent form)

Guitar Heroes World Tour - $8 per player, 1 vs. 1 (Open category)

Blackshot – 5 vs. 5, FREE and open for all Tertiary Students ONLY. This includes all ITEs, junior colleges, polytechnics, and university students.

Don’t play any of the games? No worries! Come down on both days to take a look at how others play! Not just that, we have many exciting activities organized for the audience, and goodie bags to give away! One such activity is the Virtual Olympics, played on the Wii console. A mystery Wii game will be announced, and you can sign-up for FREE! The games chosen will be party-oriented, so bring your family and friends down to join in the fun. What's more! Stand to win great prizes if you emerge victorious, one of which consist of exclusive 100 Plus goodie bags, courtesy of F&N.

Networking event with Oracle APAC

Date: 2nd October 2008 (Thursday)

Location: Executive Seminar Room 5 (S3.1-B1-07). 

We are priviledged to host Oracle APAC at a networking session recently. Oracle APAC's senior management and some of their recent hires from the Oracle Graduate Development Program (THE ORACLE REDS) came down to share with us about life in the IT industry/Oracle. Some of the guests from Oracle APAC are our alumni and we are pleased to see them coming home to their alma mater. Our students/staffs enjoyed the interaction with the Oracle staffs and we have gained more insights about life in the IT industry/Oracle.

Adobe - Master Your Future Now Seminar Series

Held on 27th August 2008, 3rd September 2008, 12th September 2008 and 7th October 2008 in NTU, we see crowds of people coming to learn more about Adobe’s software from the Adobe Evangelists from ACE Training. The workshop sessions cover Adobe Flash, Adobe Acrobat and the most popular Adobe Photoshop. The Adobe evangelists share tips and tricks on the Adobe softwares while students and staffs from NTU were seen to be taking down notes or trying the tricks on their laptops. The students and staffs in NTU had a great time learning while the Adobe Evangelist were happy to share their knowledge with this great crowd at NTU!

SOIRÉÉ

Held on 17th September 2008 at NBS Conference Room 2, SOIRÉÉ was the annual welcome day organized by NBS-SCS Student Chapter to welcome students who choose IT Major into the NBS ITOM family. Students from Business/Accountancy Year 2 IT Major and students from Business/Computing Double Degree attended SOIRÉÉ to get to know their peers better. Staffs and seniors were also present to interact with the new members of the NBS ITOM family. The Guest Of Honour of the day was Professor S. VISWANATHAN (Vish), Head of the NBS ITOM Division. He was around to interact with the students as well. The students were introduced to the NBS-SCS Student Chapter committee headed by Mr Alan Ng and he made some exciting announcements to the students as well. Student leaders from the other NBS Student Clubs also joined us at this event.


NOUVEAU

Held on 7th May 2008 at 8th Degree Restaurant, Lounge & Karaoke in NTU Alumni Clubhouse, Nouveau 2008 was the annual farewell dinner for the outgoing committee of the NBS-SCS Student Chapter headed by Mr Wang Youxiang. This event was a tribute to the great work done by the outgoing committee for the past one year and it marks the official handover of NBS-SCS Student Chapter to the new committee headed by Mr Alan Ng. Our Guest Of Honour for the evening was Mr Joshua Soh from the SCS Young Professionals Chapter and he delivered an inspirational speech on that evening. This event was also graced by the staffs from NBS, SCS and student representatives from the other SCS Student Chapters.
